What We Do
Patient Services Clinical Trials

Patient Services

Financial Assistance:

Prescription Drug Assistance

A diagnosis of cancer can create unforeseen financial burdens for patients, particularly those who endure prolonged periods of treatment. HOPE seeks to alleviate the costs associated with prescription medications by connecting patients in Northwest Arkansas with company-sponsored assistance programs, referring patients to support programs and through direct financial assistance given by HOPE to patients in need.

Emergency Financial Assistance

Many patients and their families find themselves overwhelmed keeping pace with everyday living expenses while also facing the high cost of cancer treatment. HOPE seeks to alleviate some of the financial stress on patients and their families through our emergency assistance program. Patients may qualify for temporary emergency assistance with housing and transportation costs. Categories in which emergency assistance can be provided include:
• rent or mortgage payments
• travel expenses related to treatment (including gas cards)
• home insurance
• car insurance and payments
• dentures.

All applications will be reviewed and if the request is approved, checks will be written directly to the landlord, mortgage company, etc.

HOPE’s professional staff will also work with patients and families to help them connect with other resources that may benefit them.

Emotional Support:

Confused, sacred, overwhelmed, sad, fearful - these feelings are often experienced by cancer patients and their families. HOPE’s programs and services can often alleviate some of the concerns. However, believing emotional support is essential for healthy survivorship, we go further to address these needs. Our professional staff offer emotional support ranging from a kind word or listening ear to one-on-one, couples or family sessions with a mental health professional. Emotional support services for patients, caregivers and/or family members are provided free of charge.

HOPE also works with other agencies or clinics to provide emotional support in group settings. At this time our staff facilitate the Coping and Conversation Support Group at the Cancer Support Home as well as a Lung Cancer Support Group with the Chest Clinic at Highlands Oncology Group. HOPE also is the lead facilitator is a specialized group called CLIMBŪ, Children’s Lives Include Moments of Bravery. CLIMBŪ is a unique six week program offered to families that are faced with cancer. The main focus of the group is on children who have a parent or loved one with cancer. The goal of CLIMBŪ is to help children cope with and share their feelings about a parent or loved one with cancer. During this program children will meet other kids who have a parent or loved one with cancer, learn about cancer and the normal feelings that occur, and discover strategies for coping with feelings. The adults meet separately and use this time to discuss tips on talking with their children about cancer. Dinner is provided and serves as a tool for families to get to know one another. CLIMBŪ is a program of the Children’s Treehouse Foundation and sponsored locally by HOPE, Inc., NARTI, and the Washington Regional Cancer Support Home with special thanks to the Ozark Affiliate Susan G. Komen for the Cure and Highlands Oncology Group. For more information about upcoming CLIMBŪ programs, please call 479.571-4673.

Clinical Trials

Clinical trials hold the key to breakthroughs in the treatment and prevention of cancer. Currently, HOPE serves as Northwest Arkansas' only site management organization, assisting local physicians with the development and management of cancer clinical trials. By providing data management services HOPE helps local physicians offer progressive prevention, diagnosis, and treatment options to their patients.
If you are interested in learning more about clinical trials, please contact HOPE’s research coordinator, Missy Brewer, for more information.

HOPE has served as an advocate for hundreds of patients as they struggle to obtain cancer-related prescription drugs, through both pharmaceutical company-sponsored programs and direct financial assistance. HOPE offers these resources to qualified cancer patients who live or are treated in Northwest Arkansas.
